Dhanbad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday lauded the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand Tuesday for voting in “record” numbers in the ongoing assembly elections in the two states.

“The people of Jammu and Kashmir are setting records in the elections by voting in large number, so also in Jharkhand. I commend and congratulate you as it will give a new power to the democracy,” Modi told an election meeting here.

He appealed to the people of the two states to continue to set records in voting in the remainung phases as well. Polling in Dhanbad will be held in the fourth phase on December 14. The Prime Minister said it was a ‘wonderful sight’ when a large number of people gathered yesterday to hear him in Srinagar.

“After 1983, such a big gathering has never happened and the people showed they do not fear AK-47s but came out to show that they believe in democracy.

“This will strengthen democracy,” Modi said adding a solution to every problem could be found through democratic means. (PTI)
