Probe into illegal allotment of stalls

Shillong: Reacting to a recent allegation regarding involvement of the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) staff in illegal allotment of stalls (benami) at MUDA shopping Complex, Urban Affairs Minister and Chairperson of MUDA Ampareen Lyngdoh has constituted an Enquiry Committee to probe into the matter.
The Committee will probe into the allegations by one Aibor Ribha Khongwir, a lessee of stall No 65 in the Complex, who alleged that some MUDA staff had forged his signature in the agreement letter and had illegally given the stall on lease to someone else.
The newly-constituted Enquiry Committee held its first meeting on Thursday where Khongwir was asked to present his case. “They only took my statement and I stand firm on the documents that I had procured from the office as well as the document I sent to the authorities of MUDA from time to time after I realised that my stall was given on lease to someone else without my knowledge,” Khongwir told reporters after presenting his case before the Committee on Thursday.
It may be reminded that a special enquiry committee had been constituted by the then MUDA Chairman to probe into the matter when its first surfaced in 2007, but the probe ended without any outcome and no follow up was taken ever since.
The new committee has assured to complete its probe in a week.
Meanwhile, FKJGP publicity secretary Eldie N Lyngdoh said the Federation had full faith that the probe committee would be able to unmask those involved in the forgery case.
Meanwhile, Khongwir said he is yet to file an FIR in this regard as he was confident that the committee would be able to unmask those involved in the forgery. “Once the names are revealed I will file an FIR against them,” he added.
