TURA: The State Police’s claims about the death of HNLC ‘commander-in-chief’ Bobby Marwein at the hands of Bangladeshi criminals in Dhaka has been pooh-poohed by GNLA ‘publicity secretary’ Bikdot Nikjang Marak who claims that all north-eastern outfits keep in touch with each other in neighbouring Bangladesh.
“Bobby was attacked by a gang of criminals but he is recuperating in a hospital in Bangladesh. These are the hallmarks of a sinister game plan by Meghalaya Police and Indian Intelligence agencies who want to impress their bosses in New Delhi in the run up to Dr Manmohan Singh’s visit to Dhaka later this month,” said Marak.
The GNLA leader claimed that leaders of all north eastern organisations based in Bangladesh have routine communication with each other and there is no truth in the allegations leveled by Indian agencies.
“They apparently got hold of the news of the attack and made up a bigger story to make their presence felt. It was nothing more than creating a mountain out of a mole hill. He had only recently returned from Sylet area when the incident occured,” said the GNLA ‘political secretary’.
Despite the denial, Meghalaya police maintains that the dreaded HNLC militant chief has finally been put away by forces inside Bangladesh itself.
Our reporter adds: The State Government has sought a detailed report from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs over reports of killing of HNLC ‘commander-in-chief’ Bobby Reagan Marwein in Bangladesh. “We have sought a detailed report on the killing of Marwein from the Union Home Ministry,” Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said on Thursday.
However, the Chief Minister said that since the incident was reported in another country it was not possible for the State Government to either confirm or deny the same.
