New Delhi:  Former Indian Olympic Association Secretary General Randhir Singh has been made the honorary member of the International Olympic Committee at the just-concluded extraordinary session of the world’s apex sports body in Monaco.
The 68-year-old Randhir, who served as the Secretary General of the IOA from 1987 to 2012, was named for the prestigious honorary membership of the IOC after serving as a full member of the world body from India from 2001 to 2014.
He was made a honorary member during the two-day extraordinary IOC session in Monaco from December 8 to 9.
“Randhir Singh has been made an honorary member of the IOC in Monaco at the IOC session,” current IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta told PTI.
IOA President N Ramachandran attended the IOC session.
After Randhir’s full membership of the IOC came to an end early this year, the IOA is yet to make a recommendation for a full member of the world body from India.
A former shooter who took part in five Olympics, Randhir is the second Indian to become a honorary member of the IOC after Ashwini Kumar who also was given the prestigious membership after serving as full IOC member from India.
