Violation of MUDA building laws

SHILLONG: With only 12 buildings under the scanner of High Court of Meghalaya and the CBI for the alleged violation of MUDA building laws, there is a demand to include all buildings which have violated the permissible limit of G-plus 3 (ground floor and three more floors).
“We appreciate action against the owners of 12 buildings, who allegedly violated building norms, but what we observe that there are a number of constructions  including Government buildings in and around Shillong which are beyond  G-plus 3”, a few senior city residents said.
An official said that some constructions, which are considered special buildings, secured permission from MUDA as per the amendment made in 2011 to the building laws.
The upcoming five-star hotel in Jail Road area is one such building and the Committee appointed by the High Court had earlier visited the construction site of the hotel and found that it was under the category of special building. However, there is a demand from people to examine all high rise buildings in parts of Shillong to dispel the notion that the cases of only select buildings are being examined.
It was on Friday last that the  CBI  submitted to the High Court documents which were seized  from MUDA related to the violation of building norms by 12 owners of high-rise building.
The owners of 12 buildings are Narayan Prasad Jhunjhunwala at Police Bazaar, Nilesh Tibrewalla at Thana Road, Satyabrato Baidya at Jail Road, Ajit Das Gupta at Jail Road, Bidur Das at Jail Road, Uday N. Shukla at Oakland Road, Rajkumari Sinha at Bivar Road, Mentok Ri-Project Pvt. Ltd at Bivar Road, Maruf Elahi at Bivar Road, Beroline Khongshei at Laban, Mohendro Rapsang at Keating Road and Saini Pala at Motinagar.
