900 judokas take part in national junior meet

SHILLONG: The National Youth & Junior Judo Championship 2014-15 which was inaugurated by D D Lapang, Chief Adviser Government of Meghalaya and organised by Meghalaya Judo Association (MJA) under the aegis of Judo Federation of India (JFI) came to an end on Thursday with Prof V Shukla Vice Chancellor North-Eastern Hill University Mawlai Shillong and Jemino Mawthoh, MLA Nongthymmai Constituency distributing medal to judoka winners from all over the country.

There were about 900 judokas sparring and bout at Indoor Sports Hall Polo Ground Shillong, Meghalaya. (Mrs) Ampareen M Lyngdoh, Urban Affairs Minister enjoyed the judo bout and all distinghuish guests apreciating all judokas of India and North East, Technical Team and Officials of Judo Federation of India and Meghalaya Judo Association for bringingfor bringing such Championship of National stadard in Shillong for the second time since 2007’s Sub-junior National Judo Championship 2007.

The first medal ceremony on December 9 was graced by Sanjay Goyal, Deputy Commissioner EKHD and Prof Streanmlet Dkhar, Head of Khasi Department North Eastern Hills University.

The Theme of This Championship was “JUDO FOR PEACE” as Meghalaya especially Garo Hills is badly affected where many lives have been lost including women and uniformed soldiers. (PTI)
