India thrash USA in Kabaddi World Cup

Kapurthala: Iran men’s team and Indian women’s team secured semifinal berths after defeating Spain and Denmark respectively in the fifth Kabaddi World Cup here on Saturday.

The Indian men’s team also defeated USA 52-29.

In first match of the men’s section, Iran defeated Spain 54-27.

The Iranian team dominated the match from the start. By half time, they were already leading 28-10 and managed to score a victory by a big margin of 54-27.

Iranian raiders Behman, Ahmad and Mostafa scored seven points each, while stoppers Alipeza secured four and Mojtaba won three points for his team.

For Spain, raiders Samuel scored nine and Santiago scored six points, while Alejandro secured three points for his team.

In the second match played in women’s section, India defeated Denmark 50-16. Indian raider Sukhwinder scored eight while Priyanka scored three points for her team and stoppers Anu secured seven and Mandeep secured four for their team.

In the third match in men’s section, Indian team defeated their opponents from USA 52-29. By half time, the Indian team was leading by 27-15. Indian raiders Gagandeep Jogewal and Kamaldeep scored eight points each, while Sandeep scored seven points. (PTI)
