SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Cabinet on Wednesday approved the appointment of six non-bonded doctors as Medical & Health Officers.

Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, while making the announcement, said that these six students have passed out from medical colleges both within and outside the country and conform to the conditions set by the Medical Council of India.

Sangma also observed that the State needed a large number of medical professionals, particularly doctors, even as he admitted that the number of students who complete MBBS under the State quota was not enough to meet the requirements of the State.

Division renamed: The Cabinet has approved the renaming of the Soil and Water Conservation Cash Crop Division, Baghmara as the Soil and Water Conservation Division.

Extension: The Cabinet on Wednesday extended the tenure of Zila Sainik Welfare Officer Major (Retd.) Dr. K.I. Singh by another year. Singh’s term, which was on contractual basis, was scheduled to expire on January 7 but had sought for the extension.
