SHILLONG: In a delayed reaction, the KSU has opposed the move of the State Government to make MIL (Khasi) an elective subject.

The Union observed that the decision was taken in haste without consulting all the stakeholders, especially the experts of Khasi language.

“We strongly oppose this decision of the Government since it is an attempt to de-popularize the Khasi language. We are all aware that the language is the identity of any community,” KSU president Daniel Khyriem said in statement issued here on Friday. The KSU demanded that the notification issued by MBoSE to make MIL as an elective subject be scrapped immediately. Stating that the State had a horrifying experience during the MBoSE row in 2005, Khyriem said that it would be unfortunate if a similar incident takes place as a fallout of this decision by the government.
