SHILLONG: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju has urged the “misguided youths of the State” to come over ground and join the mainstream.

Addressing a press conference post a meeting with senior State Government officials and members of the armed forces here on Friday, Rijiju said that the NDA Government is focused to “transform the economy and socio-cultural aspect of the North East in a positive manner in the next five years.”

Appealing the misguided youths to shun the path of violence, Rijiju said that it will be difficult for the Centre to implement its ideas in the North East if there is unrest in the region.

“Militant groups are harming their own community and State,” Rijiju said while urging the youths to come over ground and avail the rehabilitation opportunities offered by the Centre.

The Union Minister also said that the Government intends to turn North East into a prosperous and attractive region.

He added that the idea of making North East a route for the “Look South East Policy” will not yield results if the region is not peaceful.

Rijiju also promised all possible financial support to the region.
