Shillong: The Khasi Jaintia Higher Secondary Adhoc Teachers’ Association (KJHSATA) has decided to boycott the upcoming Teachers’ day celebration in the State after the Education Minister failed to respond to their demands for payment of salary.
KJHSATA general secretary Richmond Kharlukhi on Friday said the Adhoc teachers have not received their salaries since March.
“We are being forced to agitate as the Minister has not called us for any talks despite setting a deadline of September 2 for him to have talks with us,” Kharlukhi added.
The Association has also decided to observe black flag day on September 5.
“The Government does not care for us and they show their respect only on Teachers’ Day,” Kharlukhi added.
He also stated that they had sent several reminders to Education Minister RC Laloo for a discussion on the non release of their salaries but the minister had failed to respond to their reminders.
Around 300 Adhoc higher secondary teachers would participate in the agitation, Kharlukhi added.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association has also decided to hold a rally at Students’ Field, Jaiaw on September 5 from 1 pm onwards.
The rally is being organised in continuation of the agitational programmes launched by the MCTA to press upon the government to fulfill their demands which includes implementation of the revised pay to teachers of adhoc colleges and release of arrears for college teachers.
The Association had, earlier, observed black flag day and cease work on the August 18, 24 and 25 last.
“We would intensify our agitation if the government continues to remain and silent on the demands of the teachers,” the MCTA added.
