Ardhendu Memorial Cricket: Aparajita, Sales register wins

SHILLONG: Aparajita beat Burnside by four wickets in a low scoring first encounter of the day in the 3rd Ardhendu Chaudhuri Memorial Invitation tennis ball Cricket Tournament in Rilbong on Saturday. It took just six overs for Aparajita to achieve the 38-run target set by their opponents who were bundled out meekly. The second match of the day also produced an almost identical result with Sales XI beating Rilbong by four wickets. Batting first, Rilbong could only manage a paltry 37 which was surpassed by their opponents in the 6th over.

State TT team leaves for Andhra Pradesh

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya state Table Tennis left for Rajamundry, Andhra Pradesh to participate in the ensuing ’76th Cadet & Sub Junior Nationals 2014′ to be held from 22 to 27 December. Following players were selected on the basis of their performances in the various State Rankings and State Champion ships organized by the State Association. They will be participating in Cadet and Sub Junior categories.

Morgan replaces Cook as England’s World Cup captain

London: Eoin Morgan has replaced Alistair Cook as England’s World Cup captain, The England and Wales Cricket Board announced on Saturday. Cook has scored just one fifty in his last 22 one-day innings for England and he has paid the price for failing to stop the rot during his country’s recent 5-2 series defeat in Sri Lanka. Morgan will lead the side for the tri-series in Australia after Christmas and then the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in February and March. Cook, will not be going to the World Cup, the ECB said. An ECB statement read: “ECB today (Saturday) announced that Eoin Morgan has replaced Alastair Cook as England one-day captain with immediate effect. “England selectors met on yesterday (Friday) to pick a 15-man one-day squad for the tour to Australia and the ICC Cricket World Cup. Selectors recommended to managing director England cricket Paul Downton a change in captaincy which has now been approved by the ECB chairman.

Indian men, women clinch Fifth Kabaddi WC C’ship 2014

Badal: With their fifth consecutive win, the Indian men and women team continued its winning streak by clinching the title of Fifth Kabaddi World Cup 2014 at a grand finale held at Guru Gobind Singh Multipurpose Stadion Saturday. The Indian eves also clinched the title for the fourth consecutive time. The Indian men team defeated Pakistan for the fourth time while the Indian women team defeated the New Zealand team for the second time in a row.
