SHILLONG: Three city lads have made the State proud by being the part of ‘Arsenal Tata Tea Jaago Re Soccer Stars’ team which won the 21st Arsenal International Soccer tournament at Royal Holloway University of London, Egham Hill.

In the final (under -15) held recently, Arsenal Tata Tea Jaago Re Soccer Stars team pipped Forest Royals from England 1-0.

It may be mentioned that the trio — Jamborki lakai (defender), Chester Paul Lyngdoh (striker) of OM Roy Secondary School, who underwent training at the Sports Authority of India (Shillong) and Sushil Meithei from Boys Sports Company — were part of the 16-member team selected from all over the country to participate in a week-long coaching camp organized by the Arsenal Tata Tea Jaago Re Soccer Stars (ATTJRSS) recently at Kolkata.

On reaching Shillong on Wednesday, these young players expressed their joy over their triumph.

The trio also lamented pathetic bad ground condition in Shillong.

“There is a vast difference between the ground here and the grounds in London. London grounds are well maintained and there is no comparison”, Chester Paul Lyngdoh told reporters here adding “no matter what kind of ground we have here we will continue to pursue our goal.”

Meanwhile, these players were welcomed by the school authority of OM Roy, staff from the SAI Department as well as parents and well wishers at Polo.
