Shillong: The Hynniewtrep Achik National movement (HANM), Balat Border Circle has issued a stern warning to all the secretaries and Rangbah Shnong involved in alleged manipulation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).

Pointing out that the anomalies had been going on for quite some time now, the HANM stated that the worst sufferers are the local people who were meant to have been benefited from the scheme.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, HANM Balat Border Circle president Khrawbor Rangdkhew said that complaints started coming in alleging the members of the Village Employment Councils (VECs) of being involved in the manipulation of the centrally-sponsored scheme.

“Many local people have benefited a lot from this scheme, especially in our area where the number of underprivileged people is large”, Rangdkhew said adding that however, there were complaints that some of the VECs members were trying to manipulate the implementation of this scheme.

The HANM president also stated that there were incidences when the Rangbah Shnong would deduct up to Rs 50 from each job card holder, every time they withdrew money from the banks or the post offices.

Meanwhile, the Hynniewtrep Achik National movement has also asked the people not to shy away from reporting such falsity on the part of the VECs members and to come forward and report the same to the respective authorities.
