SHILLONG: In a Shillong Premier League battle for third place, Royal Wahingdoh FC and Langsning FC shared a point each as their match ended in a 1-1 draw at the JN Stadium, Polo, on Tuesday.

The Royals thus maintain their one point lead over Langsning (20 to 19) and stay in third place.

Both teams created a fair number of good plays, but failed in the final execution; both goals came through penalties.

Langsning drew first blood in the 18th minute courtesy Ailad Kynta.

The first shot on goal from the spot was punted back by Wahingdoh goalkeeper Abhijit, but Kynta, who took the kick, was alert to the rebound and headed the ball in.

The Royals secured the equaliser in the 34th minute after a Langsning player was guilty of a handball in the box.

Ennio Silva stepped up to take the shot, placing it up and to the left of the diving keeper, Prem Kumar Singh, whose excellent saves, especially in the second session, earned him the Man-of-the-Match award.

In Wednesday’s match, bottom club Mawlai will take on Pohkseh in what will be a battle for pride more than anything else, although Pohkseh still have an outside chance of avoiding relegation.

The match will begin at 2:45pm at Polo Grounds.

3rd Div Super League

Meanwhile, Mawkriah West beat Lawsohtun 1-0 in a Third Division Super League match with Pynshai Nongbri scoring a 12th minute winner.

Wednesday’s game will see Assam Regimental Centre face Mawkhar at 1pm.
