SHILLONG: In what can be termed as good news for the State, the Northeast Frontier Railways has more or less completed the survey work for the proposed Byrnihat-Shillong railway line.
Sources informed that the survey work for the project is almost completed and only around 5 kilometers of land survey remains incomplete.
According to the sources, the NFR has already submitted the land proposal to the respective deputy commissioners who will now have to initiate the process of acquiring the land and handing it over to the NFR for the construction work.
It may be mentioned that the Indian Railways is contemplating to connect all the eight states in India’s North East by 2020 through its ‘Mission 2020’ which will be implemented strictly within the stipulated timeframe.
However, NGOs in Meghalaya have been demanding for a comprehensive and effective mechanism to check influx before the introduction of railway in the State.
