St Anthony’s dominates with 15 top positions
HSSLC results
SHILLONG/TURA: The declaration of MBOSE results to the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examination on Monday was pretty much a repeat of last year’s performance with St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong this time as well dominating the toppers’ lists in both the Science and the Commerce streams.
The surprise element in the results, however, was BBS College, Shillong as it produced the topper in the Commerce stream — Pema Lama.
This is for the first time that the College produced a rank holder that too a top position holder.
In the Science stream, the total pass percentage is 74.46 per cent. For regular candidates pass percentage is 76.60 per cent, with male students getting 74.17 per cent and their female counterpart scoring 78.86 per cent.
For non-regular candidates, female candidates scored over their male counterparts. The pass percentage is 74.46. The male candidates had a total percentage of 46.41 and female candidates ( 52.71 per cent).
There is a drop in the overall pass percentage (74.46) as it registered 75.68 percentage in 2015.
In the Commerce stream, the total pass percentage is 70.60 per cent whereas the percentage was 72.32 in 2015.
For 2016, the regular students’ pass percentage is 75.09 per cent (males-70.23 per cent, females-82.84 per cent) while for non-regular students’ pass percentage is 38.11 per cent with females taking the lead with 55 per cent and males (30.81per cent).
As per the result of the vocational stream for HSSLC, out of the six students appeared, five students were declared successful with three in first division and two in second division.
In both science and commerce streams, St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School bagged as many as 15 top positions,
For St Edmund’s College (Higher Secondary Section) while Sulekha Sen was the lone position holder securing 8th spot for the College in commerce stream with 90 marks in Business studies , Adrian D Sangma of the same College shared the 9th position with Dutifull Nongbsaw of St Anthony’s.
In commerce stream, Barimika Marboh from Mawryngkneng Higher Secondary School secured fifth position while Darisuk Shabong of Sacred Heart Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Shillong stood at 7th position.
However, in science stream, other than St Anthony’s, the students of Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School , Jowai and R K Mission Higher Secondary School, Cherrapunjee shared second positions with Berister Swer and Saurav Pathak bringing laurels to the schools respectively.
Students from Garo Hills schools put up a poor show with only Don Bosco College, Tura and J N Higher Secondary School, Phulbari managing to secure a spot each in the Science toppers’ list.
While the 6th spot was secured by Drishti De of Don Bosco College, Tura, the 7th spot was shared by Mebadki Sohlang of St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong and Resma Sheik of J N Higher Secondary School, Phulbari. However, there were no toppers from Garo Hills in the Commerce list.
Assembly Speaker jubilant
Assembly Speaker A T Mondal who is the president of the J N Higher Secondary School, Phulbari is jubilant over the school’s success as its student Resma Sheik secured a position.
Mondal who visited the school said over phone on Monday that the credit of the success goes to Resma and her parents as the teachers and the management have acted only as catalysts.
This is the first time that the school is getting a top position in science stream.
According to Mondal, though the school was established in 1965 by the land donated by this family and subsequently augmented by him, this is the fifth batch of the science stream.
