SHILLONG: The chief executive member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), P.N Syiem, said on Friday the railway project in Ri Bhoi has not been given NOC and its construction has been put on hold.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the Council’s session hall, Syiem said, “The Executive in charge said there was verbal instruction to put construction on hold and we are discussing with officers and experts to dispose of the matter.”
KHADC got a session hall after a gap of 65 years, said Council Chairman L.G Nongsiej and lauded the teamwork of its members.
Executive member and in-charge of the building, Banteidor Lyngdoh, said the chairman had visited the district councils in Tripura and Mizoram and found that the KHADC hall is “way ahead of others in terms of quality”.
“We will make an effort to complete the construction of the entire building this year,” Lyngdoh added.
The Council’s four-day budget session will start from June 20.
Village Administration Bill
On the status of the Village Administration Bill (VAB), Syiem said it all depends on the State Government and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The KHADC had replied to the 12-point queries of the ministry.
“We cannot say anything as the State Government along with the Governor sent it (VAB) to the Home Ministry. We have to wait till they examine the Bill,” he said.
MUDA
On the contentious “MUDA encroachment”, Syiem said, “We are consulting with experts. We are prepared to file a petition in the High Court.”
The KHADC has been given the liberty to appeal in the High Court.
