TURA: Owing to constant rise in prices of diesel and other lubricants, commercial vehicle operators from Tura have proposed new enhanced fare rates for different vehicles and sought the approval of the same by concerned authorities.

The decision to enhance the fares of different vehicles was taken during a meeting held recently by the West Garo Hills Bus Association along with other vehicle associations and travel agencies of the town.

The combined vehicle associations have also apprised the Commissioner of State Transport Authority in Shillong of the new enhanced rates and sought his approval to make it official. Copies of the same letter have also been forwarded to the Deputy Commissioners, Superintendent of Polices and District Transport Officers of all Garo Hills districts.

As per the proposed new rates, the fare for Local Line Bus (Garo Hills) would increase from the earlier Rs 1.43 paisa per Km to Rs 1.90 paisa, Night Super Bus from Rs 1.10 paisa to Rs 1.60 paisa, Asanang City Bus Service from Rs 1.43 paisa to Rs 1.90 paisa, Tata Sumo (Shillong) from Rs 1.60 paisa to Rs 1.85 paisa, Tata Sumo and Winger (Garo Hills) from Rs 2.10 paisa to Rs 2.50 paisa, Xylo vehicle service with AC (Guwahati) from Rs 2.00 to Rs 2.25 paisa, Mahindra Pick Up (from Tura Bazar within Municipality Area) from Rs 600/- per trip to Rs 700/- per trip with extra charge of Rs 100/- according to distance and time required and Auto Truck (from Tura Bazar within Municipality Area) from Rs 400/- per trip to Rs 500/- per trip, also with extra charge of Rs 100/- according to the distance and time required.
