IOC General Manager caught by CBI while accepting bribe

GUWAHATI: The General Manager (Sales) of Indian Oil Corporation (Assam Oil Division) here, Dibyajyoti Datta has been arrested by the CBI after catching him red-handed taking bribe here on Monday for allotment of a petroleum outlet at Tuli in Nagaland, the investigating agency informed in a press statement issued through the PIB on Tuesday.

The CBI, Guwahati has registered a case No. RC 1(A)/2019-GWH on 10,02,2019 u/s 120B IPC and Section Sec. 7. 7(A), 8, 12 (PC) Amendment Act 2018 against four persons – Dibyajyoti Datta, GM (Sales), IOC(AOD), Guwahati, Lalchand Choudhury @ Lalaram, Auto Centre Agent, IOC Ltd, Jharnapani, Nagaland, Laxmi Narayan Sogani @ Lichu Babu, S J Road Anthgaon, Guwahati ,Assam and Tony alias Ankeet, Hindustan Tyre Corporation, Guwahati and Ms Bendangnaro Ao, Dimapur on the allegation of demanding and accepting illegal gratification habitually from different private businessmen owning petrol pump and kerosene oil dealership for showing them favour in allotment of new retail outlets all over North Eastern states including Assam.

The CBI received a tip-off that Dibyajyoti Datta demanded Rs 5 lakh from Lalchand Choudhury for selection/allotment of petroleum outlet at Tuli site. Accordingly, Lalchand Choudhury agreed to pay Rs 2 lakh as bribe initially as part payment, which was to be delivered through Ms Bengdangnaro Ao, one of the associates of Lalchand Choudhury, in Guwahati.

The CBI team caught Dibyajyoti Datta red-handed while accepting the bribe amount from Ms Ao who was paying it to the IOCL official on behalf of Lalchand Choudhury.
