One Stop Centre for women opened at Nongpoh

NONGPOH :  The One Stop Centre, a centrally sponsored scheme under the Ministry of Women and Child Development which aims at providing integrated support and assistance to women affected by violence both in private and public spaces in Ri Bhoi district was inaugurated on Monday by Smti. R.M. Kurbah, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District at DC’s quarter, Nongpoh and the programme was organized by the office of the District Social Welfare Officer, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh.

Speaking as the Chief Guest on the day Smti. Kurbah highlighted on the present situation of women where cases of crimes against women and children were increasing. She also informed that the objective of the centre was to secure and provide the best services to all women affected by violence in private, public, within the family, community and at work place and to facilitate immediate, emergency and non emergency services including medical, legal, psychological and counseling support to fight against any form of violence against women.

She said that the centre would support all women including girls below 18 years of age and urged each and all to help the women and to create awareness on the One Stop Centre so that women know about it and its purposes.

Others present on the day were officials from Health, Police, Social Welfare and Child Protection Unit, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh.
