SHILLONG: Police on Friday recovered the body of one Hapish Nongbri (53), who has been missing since June 15, from Mawiong Sung near Puriang, East Khasi Hills after arresting three persons in connection with the murder. Nongbri hailed from Malki.
One of the arrested persons led the police to the place where Nongbri’s body was dumped by his killers.
The trio were arrested on Friday from Lawsohtun (Block II). The deceased, who hailed from Pdengshnong Malki in Shillong, had gone missing since June 15 along with his local cab (ML05 G 7436).
The taxi was subsequently found from the parking space of the Forest and Environment department at Lawmali Pyllun on Wednesday last.
Police informed that another person who is also suspected to be involved in the murder is still absconding. The arrested people include two local youths and one from Arunachal Pradesh.
According to police, they got a lead after the four accused had used the mobile of the deceased. The police said that they had laid a trap for the four and finally managed to arrest three of them. The three accused ‘confessed’ to the police they had first looted Nongbri.
The police said that the four had booked the local taxi driven by Nongbri from Khyndailad to drop them at NEIGRHIMS. Police said that on reaching Itshyrwat, the four assaulted the deceased with the screw driver and looted Rs 900 from him.
