SHILLONG: The new year dawned in the city on Wednesday with a group of miscreants assaulting some people and breaking and damaging doors and windows of several homes at Forest Colony.
The incident happened at around 6:30 am when 14-15 boys came to Lumsohkynpor locality in Forest Colony armed with sticks and assaulted some people besides breaking and damaging the doors and windows of 11 houses belonging to non-tribals.
Police said that the miscreants also threatened the residents, adding that they have registered a case.
In the past month or so, there have been several cases of people being assaulted, and shops and houses being ransacked in the city in broad daylight.
Last December, a group of miscreants created trouble in Police Bazar when they assaulted several passersby besides vandalising shops and even torching a vehicle. Later, bike-borne miscreants also ransacked several shops in Demthring area as well. Just a few days back, a group of miscreants had assaulted several people in Keating Road area.

The police have not yet come out with any details as to whether those involved in the incidents have been arrested or if investigation is under way.
So far, neither Chief Minster Conrad Sangma nor Home Minister James Sangma have spoken anything about the incidents.
