Shillong remains peaceful during New Year bash

SHILLONG: The New Year bash and celebrations in Shillong was largely peaceful  as the hill city welcomed 2020 in a befitting manner.

SP (City) Steve Rynjah said that there was no report of any accident and major brawls in the city and New Year revelers were much disciplined.

Informing that there was no road accident this year,  he said that there were  few cases of drunken driving in the city and police accordingly impounded them .

It may be mentioned that Shillong Police had made elaborate security arrangements and traffic personnel were deployed in some areas till early morning on the New Year’s Day.

Police also conducted checking at different places by using breath analyzers. The situation in Shillong was quite peaceful except few instances of drunken brawls in Mawlai and Laitumkhrah and the matters were resolved.
