SHILLONG: Meghalaya’s Transport Minister, Sniawbhalang  Dhar has said that the upcoming Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) project at Mawiong is nearing completion. The project has been delayed due to the delay on the part of the Centre in releasing funds.

Speaking to newsmen here on Thursday,  Sniawbhalang Dhar said that the Centre was in the process of releasing the remaining funds for the project

“ If  fund comes, we will immediately finish the project,” he said.

Stating that the department wants the project to be completed at the earliest, he informed that major portion of the project had already completed and now only minor works such as electrical and water fittings need to be fixed.

“The progress of the project is around 80-90  percent,” he said.

The project was scheduled to be completed in December last year after years of delay. Now, the project is expected to be completed only in March.

The ISBT is a project of the NEC and the Transport department and it was being implemented by the State PWD.

It is also learnt that the land for  the approach road of the project was not yet available.

The project, which is under the Transport Department, is being executed by the PWD at an estimated cost of Rs 48 crore.

The project has missed multiple deadlines since it was sanctioned in 2013.

The project is aimed at decongesting the overcrowded parking lots in Shillong. The new terminus will accommodate 150-200 buses.

Once completed, it will be the second ISBT in Meghalaya apart from the one at Tura which was inaugurated recently.
