SHILLONG: Congress leader Mukul Sangma at the moment seems to be a popular choice among the people of Meghalaya to lead the state as per an online survey.
This reporter shared a link of a comparative video about Conrad Sangma and Mukul Sangma and asked who is better to lead the state.
The link of the video was shared in many groups on Facebook and some of the groups have as many as 12000-13000 members. The link was shared in the groups from different parts of the state. In one of the groups wherein most of the members are from plain belt of Garo Hills, most of the people favoured for Mukul as the best leader to lead the state while a large number of people in Khasi-Jaintia Hills opined that they don’t want either of them.
The links were shared in the groups from January 11 onwards and counting of the comments on January 15 showed that a large number of people prefer Mukul. The link was shared in a group called ‘Voice of Plainbelt’ which has around 13000 members and in this group during the period of 4 days, 72 people commented and while 42 of them commented in favour of Mukul, 17 of them commented in favour of Conrad.
In another group known as Garobadha Newsline, which has around 2700 members, 16 wanted to see Mukul as the leader of the state while 12 members wanted Conrad.
In another group known as Shyllong which has 3700 members, 49 people commented and 22 of them maintained that they don’t want either of them while Conrad found 5 comments whereas Mukul found support from four members.
Shillong, the Scotland of the East is another group which has around 11000 members where 43 people commented on the link and here too, 16 people in the same period maintained that they don’t want both the Sangmas to lead the state but in the group too Mukul left Conrad behind with 15 votes in his favour while Conrad managed mere 4 votes.
Similar was the situation in Discover West Khasi Hills group, where 9 people said that they don’t want both of them.
Another group I m Pnar has 6300 members and out of 89 comments, 32 people said that they don’t want these two leaders. However, about 20 comments said that Mukul is the suitable leader whereas Conrad got mere 6 comments in his favour.
In the personal wall of the scribe in Facebook too, the same question was asked with a link of the video in which 143 people responded and 65 people commented in favour of Mukul while mere 13 people voted in favour of Conrad.
So altogether, Mukul found a positive response from as many as 171 people while Conrad was proposed by 63 people.
Similarly, there were altogether 79 people who maintained that they don’t want any of them.
There was also large number of people who in their comments asked if there are no other options apart from these two leaders to lead the state and there were few as well who said that DD Lapang or HS Shylla should lead the state.
