Blood crisis at Tura Civil Hospital
TURA: The COVID-19 situation has resulted in shortage of blood at the blood bank of the Tura civil hospital. Hospital Superintendent, Dr Minakshi Sangma informed that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they have not been able to conduct regular voluntary blood donation camps leading to the crisis. While informing that the hospital has been observing a month-long World Blood Donors’ Day from June 14, Dr Sangma appealed to concerned citizens and members of different NGOs of Garo Hills to come forward and voluntarily donate blood.
Message on drug abuse
SHILLONG: Police, on the eve of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, has sent a message to the public reminding them about the ill-effects of drugs and the toll it takes on the families of the victim. In the message, they said, “Drugs destroy families. Drugs cost you more than just money”.
PWD announces closure of road
Shillong: The Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads), Sohra Division, has informed that the Mawshamok-Nongwar Road will be closed to vehicular traffic from 10 am to 5 pm everyday to enable the department to complete laying of pipe culverts on the said road. The department stated that the decision was taken to ensure safety of commuters as the said road is narrow. The department has urged people to use the Mustoh-Shella-Mawlong Road for emergency purposes, while asserting that the ongoing work would be completed at the earliest.
Govt aid for migrant workers
KHLIEHRIAT: With a bid to extend a helping hand to the migrant labourers, the East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of District Disaster Management Authority has notified the district team at Khliehriat Block and Saipung Block to collect and submit information on the migrants to identify employment avenues and benefits under various government schemes.
Webinar on traditional knowldege
SHILLONG: aiming to answer some of the challenging questions pertaining to the application of traditional knowledge for sustainable natural resource management by the indigenous communities in Meghalaya, a webinar on ‘Leveraging on Indigenous Traditional Knowledge for Promoting Sustainable Natural Resource Management’ was organised on the Thursday. The webinar was hosted by Rahul Chatterjee, a renowned professor, TV and radio anchor and winner of International High School Teacher Programme, Fellowship, CERN, Geneva. The participants included CLLMP officials, government officials, social & developmental workers, officials from World Bank, IFAD, JICA, Arghyam, Sadhana Forest, NESFAS and prominent individuals from across the country and globe.
Conference on entrepreneurship
SHILLONG: With the objective of highlighting the importance of strengthening the local economy through entrepreneurship opportunities, a virtual international conference will be orgainsed by PE Global, Managed Services Operating Partner (MSOP) for Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) under Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya (SHCDM), in association with Asian Development Bank on Saturday at 3 pm. The event is geared under the banner of “Youth entrepreneurship: A step for re-purposing local development”. International youth entrepreneurs and community leaders from seven different countries — Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Thailand — will participate in knowledge-exchange around importance of youth entrepreneurship amidst COVID-19 and youth as drivers of entrepreneurial activities in their communities, regions, and countries. The deadline for registration is 12 pm of Saturday.
WGH gets PDS rice quota
TURA: The West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner (Supply), Ram Singh has informed AAY, PHH and non-NFSA beneficiaries that the regular quota of rice under NFSA and non-NFSA for June 2020 has been released for Tura Sadar Division. The DC has directed all fair price shop dealers to issue rice as per prescribed scale of 35 kg of rice per month at the rate of Rs 3 per Kg for AAY (yellow card) beneficiaries, 5 kg per head per month at the rate of Rs 3 per kg for PHH (pink card) and 7.10 kg per card per month for which price has to be fixed by the price vigilance committee of fair price shop centre but not exceeding Rs 13 per kg for non-NFSA (blue card) beneficiaries.
