Artificial football turf at Mawlai Madan Heh Stadium inaugurated

SHILLONG: The artificial football turf was inaugurated on Thursday at Madan Heh Stadium, Mawlai Phudmuri.
Speaking on the occasion, Meghalaya Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Zenith Sangma said that it is a happy moment for sports lovers of Mawlai and that the fund was actually sanctioned for a bigger stadium but due to the non-availability of space, the actual 8,000 sq.mts. was reduced to 6,000 sq.mts.
He also informed that the remaining amount out of total amount of Rs. 4 crore sanctioned, was utilized for other purposes such as roofing, chairs, and fencing of the stadium.
While appreciating the enormous potentiality that the youth of Meghalaya has, Zenith said that the Government was committed to develop sports activities in the State and that the government is focusing diligently for the last three years in this area.
He also informed that the District Sports Commission Society under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner has been set up in all the 11 Districts of the State and an amount of Rs. 5 crore has also been sanctioned for the same. He therefore urged the people to avail the benefits
Also present at the inaugural function were, S D Khongwir, President, Mawlai Town Dorbar, G Kharmujai, Ex President and Advisory Board Member and Marcel Kharbani, President, Mawlai Sports Club besides a large number of school students and residents of Mawlai.
