Heroin worth over Rs 2.5 cr seized, 3 held

SHILLONG/JOWAI:The East Jaintia Hills Police recovered 430.01 gms of heroin and arrested three persons on January 15.
The district police has made several seizures and detained people in its drive to control drug menace.
The district SP, Vivekanand Singh, said that during the investigation of these cases, a supply network operating from Manipur to Shillong was detected and the ANTF team has been trying to bust this network for the last 3-4 months.
In the latest case, on January 15, around 8: 30 pm, a car bearing registration number ML-05-L-8177 was intercepted at Khliehriat. During the search, 430.01 gms heroin (packed in 40 soap boxes) with street value of more than Rs 2.5 crore was recovered from the vehicle.
All the occupants of the vehicle were detained for interrogation and later arrested.
They were identified as Thangsiam Haokip, T Sonlian and Hatneikim Kuki, all hailing from Manipur.
A case under NDPS Act has been registered and investigation is on.
“This is the biggest recovery of heroin in East Jaintia Hills till date. A joint team of ANTF, Khliehriat PS, Lumshnong PS and Umkiang PP participated in the operation and all the members of the team will be suitably rewarded for showing exceptional professionalism during this flawless operation,” the SP said.
