Shaiza assasination : Chinese weapon used

IMPHAL, Feb 2: A reward of Rs.150,000 has bean declared by the Manipur Government for anyone arresting or disclosing information leading to the arrest of the killers of the

former chief minister, Mr Yangmasho Sliaiza.

Talking to newsmen, the Manipur SP, M.r Th. Karunamoy Singh said that the killer of the late Mr Shaiza had been identified and that the motive behind the assasination had been purely political.

Mr Singh added that the assailant had not yet been arrested but 82 Tangkhul Nagas had already been rounded up in connection with the assasination.

The gun used by the asasins to kill Mr Shaiza was of Chinese make. This was confirmed by the ballistics experts.

Meanwhi1e, Police arrested five members of the People’s Independant Bloc, a local party, in Ukhrul, including its president, Mr Somi Haran. Sources said that all the arrested persons had been brought to Imphal for interrogation.

The late Mr Shaiza had refused to take security guards at his residence inspite of repeated requests made to him by the Police and Security Force
