Editor,

The other day I was in Shillong for a short vacation and came across a poly-pack of Megha milk being marketed by District Milk Procurement and Marketing agency which is processed and packed at Central Dairy AH and Veterinary , Mawiong Shillong. I would like to highlight some of my observations for consumer awareness. (1) There was no MRP printed in the pack (2) There is no mention in the pack about the type / variant of the milk (3) The date of packaging is not mentioned (4) The “Use by date ” is also not mentioned (5) There is no batch number appearing in the pack .

All the above details are mandatory as per PFA and I wonder being a Government department (AH and Vety) why even the statutory details are not appearing in the pack? These days when everyone is talking about “Jago Grahak Jago” (Wake up consumers, wake up) not mentioning the mandatory details in the pack of food products and that too when the same is marketed by a Government Agency certainly calls for intervention by the top management .

Yours etc.,

K K Bhadra,
