New Delhi: India’s Sania Mirza climbed 11 spots to reach a career-high doubles ranking of 14 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, released on Monday.
Sania last week created history by becoming the first Indian woman to reach a Grand Slam doubles final. She and Elena Vesnina of Russia reached the French Open final, where they lost to unseeded Czech pair Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka.
The Indo-Russian pair are now number three in doubles ranking.
The 24-year-old Hyderabadi, who lost in the singles second round at Roland Garros, also took rapid strides in the singles by climbing 14 rungs to 58th place.
In the men’s singles, India’s Somdev Devvarman, who crashed out of singles first round in French Open, dropped a place to 67th place in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) ranking.
In the doubles, Rohan Bopanna who with Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan reached the quarterfinals at Paris, has gained a place to a career-best 10th position.
Mahesh Bhupathi remained unchanged at fifth place but his partner Leander Paes dropped four places to 11. (IANS)
