Over 100 bags of fertiliser seized

NONGSTOIN: The members of Western People’s Movement (WPM) on Friday seized over 100 bags of DAP fertiliser from a market here.

Acting on a complaint lodged by some local farmers, the WPM members conducted a surprise raid at Nongstoin market and found that most of the suppliers, who had no license or permit, were selling DAP fertiliser at Nongstoin at an exorbitant rate.

The WPM members later met the District Agriculture Officer (DAO) , West Khasi Hills, who issued an order to closedown all those shops who were selling DAP fertiliser illegality.

Syiemlieh said the dealers were selling DAP fertilizser at Nongstoin at an rate of Rs 900 per packet whereas its government price is Rs 595.

Meanwhile, the WPM lambasted the Agriculture department for its negligence towards the welfare of the farmers.

Eye camp: The Tarabon Counselling Centre Jing iaseng kynthei Nongstoin Presbytery in collaboration with the Bansara Eyes Care centre on Friday conducted a free eye check-up camp at Nongstoin CHC old building.

The inaugural function was attended by V Swer, EAC, as the chief guest and Dr Bansara along with her team from Shillong. Hundred of patients from different parts of West Khasi Hills attended the camp.

Stabbed: One Phur Nongsiej (30) of Mawtihkhar village under Mairang Sub-division received serious injuries when one Spor Lyngdoh Nonglait (56) stabbed him with a knife. The injured was referred to Shillong for better treatment.

Meanwhile, Mairang Police on Friday arrested the culprit.
