SHILLONG: MPCC president Friday Lyngdoh has decided to apprise UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on the failure of NEIGRIHMS to provide satisfactory services to the people.

Since NEIGRIHMS is considered a super specialty hospital with state of the art facilities equivalent to AIIMS, Delhi, Lyngdoh said the people of this region have an aspiration that it would be able to provide high quality health care services comparable to CMC, Vellore and APOLLO Hospital, Chennai.

“But so far NEIGRIHMS has failed to live up to the expectations of the people of the region. All those who had gone to NEIGRIHMS for treatment have expressed their disappointment,” MPCC president said here on Monday.

Not only is there a shortage of doctors but there are complaints that people have been asked to do their test outside from private hospitals.

According to Lyngdoh, before taking up the matter with Ms Gandhi he would seek a report from the NEIGRIHMS authorities.

“I am expected to meet her (Sonia) sometime in July,” MPCC president said.

He said that personally, he was very disappointed to see people dashing to Vellore even for minor problems like gastro-intestinal problems.

“This clearly indicates that people do not have faith on NEIGRHIMS,” Lyngdoh said.

The MPCC president said he would also request the UPA chairperson to increase the seat allocation for the State at the medical institute in NEIGRIHMS.

“Since the institute is in Meghalaya, I strongly feel that the seat allocation should be increased for the local indigenous student from the State,” Lyngdoh said.

It may be mentioned that at present out of the 50 seats in NEIGRIHMS medical institute, only nine seats have been allocated for local students.
