SHILLONG: One Dhanraj Rai (32) was arrested on Thursday by the guards posted outside the residence of State Legislative Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope at Pohkseh, while he was allegedly committing theft there.

The accused was later handed over to police.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Vivek Syiem said Rai, who is mentally deranged, was only trespassing into the Speaker’s residence and not resorting to stealing.

Syiem added that the accused was recently discharged from MIMHANS after his treatment.

Following his interrogation, Rai was sent back to the hospital. Police have decided not to take any legal action against him due to his mental condition.
