SHILLONG: NEIGRIHMS director Dr ME Yeolekar on Tuesday assured a KSU delegation that the result of the interview for recruitment into the institute would be announced within August.

Disclosing this, KSU general secretary Hamlet Dohling said, “We have been informed by the Director that the first phase of interview was completed in February last and the second phase of the interview would be conducted in the first week of July after which results would be announced in August.”

Interestingly, the Director’s assurance to the KSU delegation was not conveyed to the agitating students.

The Union also alleged that the chaos in NEIGRIHMS is an end result of too much politics being played thereby affecting the interest of the medical students and the people.

“We have told the Director that the delay in declaring the results would give more room for manipulations. Therefore the faculty members should be appointed immediately to solve the problems being faced by the students and the patients,” the KSU leader said.

The Union also demanded for basic amenities like water supply, hostel facilities and other requirements to be extended to the medical students and asked Dr Yeolekar to address such problems.

Dohling said the Union would again seek Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad’s intervention if the problems in NEIGRIHMS are not resolved quickly.

“We may be compelled to close down the Institute because the super speciality hospital cannot function in such a manner especially lack of faculty and doctors who are to look after the welfare of the students and the patients,” Dohling asserted.
