Police arrest 5 dacoits in Jaintia Hills

JOWAI: Khliehriat Police on Wednesday arrested five persons in connection with a dacoity case.

The arrested persons are identified as Sanjeev Rai, Sudhar Chan Das, Ram Tamang, Ranjeet Boro, Sambu Subha and Suden Nazare.

According to sources, all the arrested persons committed the crime at a mining site at Wah Sylli under Deinshynrum village on Sunday night. “The armed persons entered labourers’ camps and looted around Rs. 30,000 besides some gold ornaments”, sources said adding that they were armed with daggers, doa and pickaxes.

Acting on a complaint lodged by one of the victims (name withheld), Khliehriat police led by sub-inspector Karen Lyngdoh raided some camps and arrested all five.

Vehicle stolen: Unidentified miscreants stolen a vehicle (ML04A- 2183) from Khliehriat Petrol Pump on Wednesday night.

Sources informed that the driver parked the vehicle near the petrol pump to have his dinner at one of the local restaurant at around 8:00 pm. Half-an-hour later, the driver found his vehicle missing.

The owner of the vehicle, Raj Kumar Yadav lodged a complaint with the police in this connection.
