SHILLONG: The State Government has not initiated any action to appoint a new Additional Advocate General (AAG) even three months after the earlier incumbent had relinquished his post following a controversy.

The State Law department, it seems has not been able to zero in on a possible name for the post of AAG from among the three or four probable candidates for the post.

Highly-placed sources of the Law department have indicated that ODB Ladia, former principal of Shillong Law College, is the most likely candidate for the post, but nothing has been confirmed so far.

“The appointment file is on the move and we are working out to ensure that the most deserving person is appointed to the post,” the sources added.

The post fell vacant three months back when the then AAG SP Mahanta quit the chair after he was accused of being involved in an alleged land-grab case.

Earlier, the State Government had assured that if the accused official was found innocent in the land-grabbing case, he would be reinstated as the AAG.
