Editor,

Friday morning was an immensely pleasant surprise when I was greeted by the new on-line version of ‘The Shillong Times’. With the new colouring, widgets, links, the overall appearance is truly amazing and reflects the sheer dedication and hard work undertaken. Kudos to you and your entire team who day-in and day-out strive endlessly to be the true voice of Meghalaya.

Yours etc.,

Parikhit Dutta, Bengaluru.

Editor,

It was great for me to see Shillong Times finally embrace the modern technology and launch a new avatar of the website. As a person who has worked as an online journalist in one of India’s best multi-lingual website oneindia.in it gives me immense pleasure to see your new website. Congratulations to the entire team……With some good SEO and promotion hopefully we will find news related to Shillong more frequently on the website on Google News and other organic search engine results.

Editor,

It was a bit of a culture shock this morning when I ‘opened’ my copy of the ST. It does look posh! I have extremely vague recollections of the ST thirty years ago – but I think you have a made a difference to the paper and you have used it as a media to stir all those sluggish minds. I am at last beginning to hope that people will reclaim Shillong as their city and work hard to make it the beautiful capital it once was. The young people are to be admired and encouraged. They still have nor lost their innocence and can still recognise and respect decency. That’s why its frustrating when politicians bungle this up with their casual arrogance.

NEIGRIHMS status unclear

Editor,

The official website of the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences at Shillong has proudly stated that NEIGRIHMS is an Autonomous Institute established by Government of India in 1987 under the Meghalaya Registration of Societies Act 1983. The then Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi dedicated the Institute to the memory of Late Indira Gandhi, former Prime Minister for her commitment to the welfare and affection for the people of North Eastern Region. It has now been designed as a Postgraduate Medical Institute in the lineage of AIIMS, New Delhi and PGIMER, Chandigarh. NEIGRIHMS is the first and the only Postgraduate Medical Institute in the North Eastern Region and third in the country established by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

However, NEIGRIHMS is not found in the list of 335 colleges of the country teaching MBBS as well as the list of medical institutions offering PG courses in the official website of Medical Council of India. Autonomous institutions like JIPMER, AIIMS are found in the list of medical institutions recognised by the MCI. It is questionable whether NEIGRIHMS is a recognized institution of MCI or not. Why has NEIGRIHMS been excluded in the list of MCI ? What is the status of NEIGRIHMS ?

Yours etc.,
