KHADC team visits proposed ferro alloy co site

 NONGSTOIN: A five-member KHADC delegation under the leadership of Antony War on Thursday visited the site of the proposed ferro alloy factory at Porla under Nongstoin PS, West Khasi Hills.

The delegation was accompanied by Dominic Lyngkhoi, secretary of FKJGP’s Mawsynrut unit and Sranly Rongrin, president of KSU’s Mawnsunrut unit chief. Some leaders from Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong Mawsynrut also accompanied the KHADC delegation.

The KHADC delegation includes L. Blah, LG Nongsiej, PK Pangngiang and FK Ryntathiang.

The visit was aimed at studying the ground really after several organizations protested the setting up of the factory at Porla.

It may be mentioned here a public hearing was conducted in this regard on April 11.

While speaking to media persons Dominic Lyngkhoi said his organization would lodge a strong protest “if the state government goes ahead with the project at the proposed site”.

Antony War informed that the NoC was issued to the company in 2009. “In case of local people’s strong protest, the KHADC will have to summon those involved in issuing the NoC including the Headman/Syiems of Rmbrai and Mawriaw.

A company official later told this scribe that the public would have to identify another location which will be suitable to set up the factory.

Logs seized: Meanwhile, the KHADC MDCs on their way back to Nongstoin after visiting Porla seized a truck loaded with logs of freshly cut teak tree at Umjurru village, about 21 kms from Nongstoin.

Antony War later informed an inquiry committee would be constituted to find out the nexus between KHADC officials or public in felling of trees.
