Shillong: The Khasi Hills Sumo Counter Association (KHSCA) has refuted the allegation of the Meghalaya Tourist Transporters Association (MTTA) that the former charged Rs 600 tourist taxis for stickers.

Clarifying the matter, the KHASCA publicity secretary KL Buhphang said the amount of Rs 600 was charged as entry fee from sumos, tourist taxis who have registered under the counter recently.

“This was done for easy identification tourist taxis as there were instances in the past wherein passengers complained about misbehaviour of drivers or misplacement of their baggage,” said Buhphang.

The KHASCA also denied allegation of frisking and demanding fine from the sumos and tourist taxis.

Buhphang further said that the MTTA chief A Shanpru had been misled by some drivers.
