SHILLONG: The State Government has taken up an ambitious project to create a database of all its employees.

A database template for collection of the information has already been approved for the project prepared in tune with a direction of the 13th Finance Commission.

The Directorate of Accounts and Treasury, which has been entrusted with the project, has prepared a manual to guide and provide the treasury personnel with adequate information to fill in the required data correctly in the database template, official sources said.

Inaugurating a workshop on Building of Employee and Pension Database organised by the Directorate of Accounts and Treasuries at U Soso Tham auditorium here on Monday, Chief Secretary, WMS Pariat stressed the need for providing accurate information to be fed in the system.

“Information should be dynamic and constantly updated which can become very useful to the Government and other users of the database,” Pariat added.

Pariat mentioned the information provided to the Planning Commission years ago were not so accurate because they had been complied manually.

The present day technology would definitely provide accuracy provided the information fed in the system are correct, added the Chief Secretary.

The Meghalaya Employee Database would also function as an e-Service Book in the future, which would prove useful for an employee during his retirement.

Absence of authentic and dynamic information on employees and pensioners and their entitlement has hindered accurate computation of the salary and pension expenditure so far, sources said.
