JOWAI: Residents of Satpator under Amlarem sub-division in Jaintia Hills district have expressed deep concern over the dilapidated condition of Amlarem – Muktapur road.

The Amlarem – Muktapur road is the lifeline of the area and the negligence on the part of the government as well as the concerned department has affected all section of the people including farmers and traders.

Farmers could not transport their produces to Amlarem which is the nearest market in the area. In emergency situation, local people can not take the risk of rushing the sick people for proper treatment in Jowai or Shillong.

‘HSRP useless’: The Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF) opposed the implementation of High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) terming it as “useless exercise”.

“The implementation of HSRP has not reduced the number of car theft cases in the district”, the JYF said in a statement.

“Now it is clear that the HSRP is a source of income of some vested interests in the government,” the statement said.

The JYF urged all rangbah shnongs to be vigilant against all outsides residing in their respective villages. The Federation also urged all house owners to be very careful in letting their houses on rent to any outsiders.

KSU condemns rape: The KSU’s Khliehriat circle has condemned the rape of a 17-year-old girl of Dkhiah village by one Seibor Nongtdu and his accomplice Datush who is still absconding.

“We met the victim and also the police to enquiry about the incident”, said KSU unit chief SS Ryngkhlem.
