Rapist held at Mairang

 NONGSTOIN: One Bindi Kurbah, 23, of Mairang was arrested by the Mairang Police Station on Wednesday for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl at Mawtharap forest located near Mairang.

Sources said the incident took place when the girl was going to forest to collect a moss for her practical class.

The rapist was arrested by the Mairang Police after the girl’s parents lodged an FIR. The victim was later taken to Mairang Civil Hospital for medical check-up.

Collection counter: The FKJGP’s Mawthadraishan unit and the headmen of more than 30 villages on Thursday urged to the Executive Engineer (Central Revenue division) of MeCL, to set up a collection counter at Markasa village.

Restriction: The Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills S Kharlyngdoh has informed that in view of the repair and restoration works of the  Nongstoin-Darugiri road (portion from Risiang to Wahlyngdoh), which got under way on July 13, plying of coal-laden trucks on said portion of the road will not be allowed from July 13 to July 30.
