Over 1.50 lakh ‘D’ voters in Assam

GUWAHATI:There are 1.57 lakh ‘D’ (Doubutful/Disputed) voters in Assam, whose cases are being taken up at 36 Foreigners Tribunals set up to specifically deal with these cases.Moreover, altogether 83,471 cases of ‘D’ voters have been disposed by Foreigners Tribunals till March 31, 2011, the state government informed the state Assembly on Monday. Of the disposed cases, 5,577 people were declared foreigners by the Tribunals, while 41,024 people were declared Indian citizens.Regarding the status of suspected foreigners detained, the government said 148 people, comprising 94 males and 54 females, are in three foreigners detention camps in the state.(UNI)
