SHILLONG: The magisterial inquiry into the ostracisation of seventeen families by the Mawsynram Dorbar Shnong will be completed before the Independence Day.
Talking to a group of journalists here on Saturday, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Jopthiaw Lyngdoh said that the inquiry will resume shortly after the mock poll is over.
The Mawsynram Dorbar Shnong Executive Committee has ostracized seventeen families for filing an RTI against the local fair price shop dealer of the village.
The families who were ostracized had also alleged that they did not get any rice for a period of 72 months and sugar for a period of 92 months from the fair price shop dealer, Asorda Marbaniang who is the wife of the Rangbah Shnong.
According to Deputy Commissioner, the authority which appoints the headman should also insert a clause into the law prohibiting arbitrary actions on the part of village councils.
‘We will examine the matter and the District administration will intervene at the appropriate time,” Lyngdoh told reporters here on Saturday.
As per the RTI documents received from the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner (Supply), it clearly indicates that under the AAY and BPL cards which were issued to all the 17 families, they never received any rice for a period of 72 months and sugar for a period of 92 months.
On this, the official said, the Supply department issues the next monthly quota of essential commodities for the dealers after going through the utilization certificate.
“If a fault is there on the part of the dealers, action will be taken as per the control orders,” Lyngdoh added.
