JOWAI: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has summoned all Congress MDCs of the now-suspended Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) at Congress Bhavan in Shillong on Wednesday.

“The meeting will discuss the ongoing political state of affairs of the JHADC”, said a release issued by the MPCC president.

Due to differences among Congress MDCs and the demand of change in leadership by the Hambertus Nongtdu -led group, the JHADC was put under suspension and charge was handed over to the Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner as the administrator on April 1.

The MPCC had summoned all the 27 Congress MDCs in the Council on May 16 to discuss the rift within the party MDCs split into two groups – one led by former CEM, Hambertus Nongtdu and the other by CEM, Lamdibok Sumer.

Again in June, the MPCC held another meeting with the JHADC Congress MDCs in presence of AICC leaders Dhani Ram Shandil, Sanjay Bapna,, MPCC president, Union Minister, Vincent H Pala, CWC members and the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma.

The meeting constituted a special committee and entrusted the JHADC president to convene a meeting of all the committee members to discuss its affairs.

Sources informed that the JHADC president has convened a meeting and a report was sent to the MPCC.

“The committee in which all the Jaintia Hills legislators were members decided to allow Lamdibok Sumer to continue as the JHADC chief, but the MPCC has not accepted the resolution taken by the special committee,” sources added.

The MPCC once again set 10 days time to the JHADC president to convene a meeting of all MDCs, but due to Behdeinkhlam Festival in Tuber and Jowai the president could not call the meeting, sources said.

Meanwhile, the JHADC president convened a meeting of all members of the special committee on Tuesday evening. “All Congress MLAs will attend the meeting,” sources added.

It may be mentioned that the Hambertus led Congress MDCs stuck to their demand to depose Lamdibok Sumer from the post of CEM and claimed that he (Hambertus) has the support of 15 Congress MDCs.

Meanwhile, the Congress MDCs sided with Lamdibok Sumer wanted the higher-ups in the party to solve all differences.
