Three militants held in Manipur

Imphal: Three militants have been arrested during various search operations in Manipur, officials said on Monday. A militant of banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) identified as Thiyam Shyam Singh (47) was arrested by a combined team of police commandos from Waithou area in Thoubal district on Sunday evening, they said. Two militants of banned Kangleipak Communist Party-Noyon faction identified as Moirangthem Boboi (28) and Konsam Jilasana (30) were also arrested during a search operation at Sita area in Chandel district by 23th Assam Rifles personnel on Sunday evening, they said. Over 100 militants of different outfits have so far been arrested during various search operations in Manipur this year. (PTI)

Housewife drowns in Rangeet river

Gangtok: A housewife was drowned in the Rangeet river at Majhiagaon in Jorethang South Sikkim, police said on Monday. 40-year-old Sashi Mukhia, a resident of Majhigaon was washed away by the strong current of the Rangeet river while disposing kitchen waste on Monday morning, the sources said. Project to revamp Dimapur NEZCC

Kohima: The North East Zone Cultural Centre initiated projects to revamp some of the existing facilities at its centres at Dimapur and Guwahati, Director of NEZCC, Dimapur Som Kamei said. Official sources said here on Monday. Kamei informed beautification and renovation works at the Stone Sculpture Garden Dimapur, for improving the facilities, had already begun. To make the garden attractive, traditional huts of all the states would be showcased. The project has already started with Assam and Nagaland, sources added. The NEZCC had already put up the tree house at the stone garden while the Khiamungan, representing Nagaland state started the construction of traditional morung. (UNI)

One held for molestation bid

Itanagar: A technician was arrested for stripping a minor girl and attempting to take her photograph with his mobile phone in an xray clinic at Naharlagun near here, police sources said. The technican was caught by members of All Nyishi Students Union and handed over to the police after the girl’s family members approached them for help on Sunday, the sources said. The techinican, Digonto Hazarika from Assam’s Lakhimpur district was arrested, they said. ANSU president Sikka Gapak urged private clinics not to employ people with doubtful antecedents. (PTI)
