SHILLONG, July 21: Meghalaya is under a Yellow Alert with moderate to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected till July 25, the IMD has warned.
Moderate to heavy rain is very likely at many places from July 22 to 25, with isolated thunderstorms, lightning and heavy downpours. The Yellow Alert covers July 22-23; conditions should ease from July 24. An active southwest monsoon is driving the weather.
In the past 24 hours, Sohra recorded the highest rainfall at 278.6 mm, followed by Umiam (106.4 mm), Mawsynram (84 mm) and others.
The IMD cautioned of possible waterlogging, flooding, reduced visibility, uprooted trees and disrupted transport. Residents are advised to stay alert and follow official bulletins.
