SHILLONG: The State Government has finally hiked the fares of local taxis, a long pending of the cabbies.

The official notification in this regard was issued on July 25, but the new tariff was not announced yet.

East Khasi Hills Local Taxi Welfare Association (EKHLTWA) general secretary Wandonbok Jyrwa said Transport Minister AT Mondal told the Association during a meeting on Tuesday that the notification was issued on Monday.

He, however, made it clear that the cabbies must display the new tariff card in order to charge the new fares. “We were directed to meet the Under Secretary or Commissioner of Transport on Wednesday to ask for the new tariff cards,” Jyrwa said.
